Taxi driver fined for stealing electricity

A taxi driver was yesterday fined $50,000 for stealing electricity.

Narine Sanassie, 47, pleaded guilty to a charge that he fraudulently diverted electricity to his premises when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown’s Magistrates’ Courts.

Also charged with electricity theft yesterday was Allan Campbell, 23, of West Ruimveldt. Campbell pleaded not guilty and according to his lawyer, Paul-Fung-A-Fat, he did not live at the premises where the alleged theft occurred. Campbell was placed on self-bail and there was no objection to bail by Prosecutor Michael Grant.

Campbell’s next court date is September 22.
