The naked and battered dead body of a woman was found behind a community centre at Matthews Ridge, North West District (NWD), yesterday.
The woman was identified as Samantha Ashby, 32 of Pakera, NWD.
The body was found by children who went to the back of the community centre to do some exercises.
Police said in a press release that the body was discovered around 10:45 am yesterday.
Ashby’s sister, who spoke with Stabroek News, was audibly distraught. She said she received the news around 11 am and went to identify the body. She told this newspaper that her sister appeared to have been beaten as her body was bruised and her face swollen. She had learned also that two condoms and a cap were found near the body.
She could not provide further details as she too was in the dark and upset.
The body was taken to Port Kaituma and a post-mortem examination will be conducted today.
Ashby leaves to mourn a 15-year-old son. Police investigations are ongoing.
