Pakera woman was raped and murdered

A post-mortem examination conducted on the remains of murdered North West woman, Samantha Ashby has confirmed that she was raped.

This is according to the woman’s sister who also said that the cause of death was given to her as multiple injuries. Additionally, she sustained a broken hip and fractured skull. The post-mortem examination was performed by Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh at Port Kaituma.

Stabroek News was told that three men who have been detained remain in police custody and are denying that they had anything to do with the woman’s death.

Ashby’s nude body was found behind the Matthews Ridge Community Centre around 10.45 am on Tuesday by some children who had ventured to the area to do some exercises. It appeared as though the 32-year-old mother of one and resident of Pakera was beaten as her body was bruised and her face swollen. Two condoms were found near the body.Earlier she had gone out to socialise with friends. It is believed that while on her way back home during the wee hours of Tuesday, she was attacked and killed. Police are continuing their investigations.
