Gas station worker dies in accident at Wallers Delight

A 22-year-old Wallers Delight, West Coast Demerara man died as he attempted to cross the road in his community yesterday morning.

‘Dead is Simon Bachu who worked as a pump attendant at the Guyoil Gas Station located in the village.

Foster father of Bachu, Kemraj Singh, who witnessed the accident told Stabroek News that the young man was attempting to cross the road when he was stuck down.

The man said the young man, who lived opposite his place of employ was going home when he killed. He said Bachu made several attempts to cross the road and on the last attempt he dashed across but was hit by a 4×4 vehicle which had attempted to swerve from him.

He said the driver was not driving at a fast rate but that Bachu fell when he was hit and the wheel of the vehicle injured his head. He died as he was being taken by the said vehicle to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and was officially pronounced dead there.

Singh explained that Bachu is survived by 12 siblings and that he and some of them had moved from Laluni to the village some time ago and he had taken them in as his own children. He was saddened at the way the young man met his demise and described him as a hard and dedicated worker.

 

Police in a press release said that the driver of the vehicle is in police custody assisting with investigations.
