Lethem promised improved power by year-end

Lethem and surrounding Region Nine communities will benefit from improved power supply by year-end, following the installation of six generating sets at the new power station which is currently under construction.

GINA said that the $137M power station is being constructed by Government to improve electricity supply in Lethem and its surrounding communities. The equipment to be installed at the station is an estimated $20M.

Prime Minister, Samuel Hinds who recently inspected work at the construction site, reiterated that the generators will be in place by year-end, and that residents can expect a better service, GINA reported.

Hinds, expressed satisfaction at the pace of the works, and said that the decision to construct a new power station was based on flooding in the community which often affects the present power station.

The station will now be sited on relatively high ground in the commercial/ industrial area, GINA said.

By the end of this month, the synchronising mechanism and the connection will be put in place, GINA said and the switching over will be done.
