Duo charged with theft of GPL transformer

Two employees of GNS Electrical have been charged with the theft of a Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) transformer.

It is alleged that between September 19 and October 9, 2014, at Georgetown, Eon Daniels, 19 and Junior Timmers, 43, of Thomas Street, stole a 150 kVA transformer, valued $395,253, belonging to GPL.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the charge read after it was read to them by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court One

Prosecutor Michael Grant, when the court asked if the item was recovered, explained that the transformer was found mounted on a lantern pole.

He had no objections to bail, while the men’s attorney, Paul Fung-A-Fat asked for it to be a reasonable sum. Bail was subsequently set at $125,000 for each man.

The magistrate ordered that statements be filed and the matter was adjourned until November 14.
