D&I worker charged over chain snatching

Kenrick Stanwell, a Drainage and Irrigation worker, was yesterday granted bail when he appeared before Magistrate Sunil Scarce charged with larceny from a person.

According to the police facts, on October 19 at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, the 22-year-old man of Dart-mouth, Essequibo Coast snatched a gold chain from Navindra Naryan.

The police said it was around 12.45 am that Stanwell reportedly walk-ed up to Naryan with a cell phone in his hand, flashed the light in his face, pulled the gold chain valued $400,000 off Naryan’s neck and made good his escape.

The police were alerted and after investigations, Stanwell was arrested.

Stanwell who was represented by Attorney Hemraj Rajkumar pleaded not guilty to the charge after the Administration of Justice Act was applied.

He was granted $140,000 bail and the case was adjourned to Novem-ber 11 at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court.
