Man charged with murdering fisherman

A man appeared in court on Tuesday charged with the murder of a fisherman.

Suresh Ramnarine, 20, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo died as a result of perforation of the aorta due to a stab wound, according to a post-mortem examination performed on his remains on Wednesday.

following an argument with a ‘friend.’ He reportedly sustained a single stab wound from behind.

He collapsed to the ground bleeding and was rushed to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

He would be laid to rest today.

Meanwhile, Vijay ‘Burnham’ Ramtahal, 24 whose address was given as Parika Fisheries wharf and who lived on the fishing boat that he worked on was charged with his murder. He was unrepresented when he appeared at the Leonora Court on Tuesday before Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.

Ramnarine was remanded until November 26 when the case comes up again for report and fixture.

The matter was prosecuted by Sergeant Sherwin Matthew and Corporal Jairam Luckhai.
