The 10-month project to reconstruct the Moleson Creek Bridge is completed, the Ministry of Public Works revealed yesterday.
According to a press release from the ministry, the 105 ft long concrete structure was opened to traffic on October 18.
The bridge, approximately two miles from the Moleson Creek Stelling –
a heavily trafficked area where a ferry plies the Guyana/Surinam route – serves to amplify the eastbound and westbound bridge by 10 feet, allowing for wider shoulders for easier traffic flow, the release said.
The $60 million project began in January and included the replacement of structural steel and the driving surface, as well as widened support piers. B & J Civil Works was the contracting company, with Sherod Parkinson, a Public Works Ministry Engineer overseeing the project, the release added.
Meanwhile, the $11 million Bounty Hall Bridge in Essequibo is expected to be completed in another six weeks, the release said, adding that N Sukhi Contracting Services is executing that project.
Over the past 16 months, the ministry has built several major bridges including at Ogle, Eastern Highway (Sophia) and Hampton Court, Essequibo.
