Sterling Products employees graduate from 4th Literacy Programme

Sterling Products Limited (SPL) says no employee should ever put a cap on their potential, in the charge to its latest batch of employee graduates at its Fourth Graduation Ceremony in the Fast Track Initiative Programme held on Tuesday.

The Fast Track Initiative Programme is a collaboration between the company and the Ministry of Education with the objective of improving staff members’ lives by enhancing their literacy skills. This includes their ability to read and understand, to write, and to listen and speak. Fifteen employees graduated from levels 1 to 4 of the programme, the company said in a press release.

In his feature address at the simple ceremony, Deputy Chief Education Officer Marcel Hudson commended SPL for embarking on the initiative. This is Hudson’s third year of involvement in the programme and he pledged the ministry’s continued support. He also said “the drive, commitment and willingness of the lecturers to render their services to the programme charitably is a momentous achievement which should be emulated by all.” Of the group, Hudson singled out Paul Williams, Head of the National Literacy Unit, and Ms Williams, who is attached to the same Unit, for special commendation for their commitment to the programme.

Meanwhile, Ramsay Ali, Chief Executive Officer of SPL, in his opening remarks commended his employees for their commitment to completing the programme. He noted that some would have overcome a number of challenges to do so and as such he was high in praise of their achievement. He noted too that one of the graduates from the programme has since gone on to complete a diploma programme at the University of Guyana.

Finance Controller/Company Secretary Deodat Indar also lauded the efforts the employees made to complete the programme. He urged them to pursue higher levels of education. “No employee should ever put a ceiling on their potential, especially when it comes to their education,” the company said.
