Man on bail after denying slapping wife

A man found himself in a city court yesterday after his wife accused him of slapping her.

Prosecutor Michael Grant said there was a misunderstanding between Vincent Howard and Lavern Howard at their 250, Independence Boulevard home, during which she ended up on the receiving end of a drunken slap.

The man pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Paul Fung-A-Fat, asked Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to consider, in granting bail, the fact that he is a 43-year-old family man who provides well for his three children.

The magistrate asked Mrs Howard if she would like a protection order under the Domestic Violence Act. The woman said no.

The man’s bail was then set at $25,000 on the condition that he move out. The man provided his mother’s 187 Callender Street, Albouystown address as an alternate residence. He was also bonded to keep the peace. He is to return to court on November 14th, when the case will be called at Court 10.
