Houston gets community centre ground

The Houston Community once again, after more than three decades, has the benefit of a useable community centre ground thanks to the combined efforts of the PPP/C government, the private sector and the residents of the community, a release from the community said.

PPP/C Member of Parliament Manzoor Nadir said that the project was endorsed and seeded with a 1.2 million dollars grant from the government, through the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport. Coming on board were the business community and the residents. Nadir disclosed that DIGICEL, Friendship Oxygen Company, Houston Estates, Splashmins, Alvin Rambarran’s Enterprise, Rudy Singh Equipment, Readymix and M & S Construction contributed over 2.3 million dollars in cash and kind to have the project completed in six weeks.

The release said that among the works done was the building up of the ground with 170 loads of earth and 40 loads of sand and loam, and the construction of a 10×80 feet concrete cricket pitch.
