‘Picture Boy’ found not guilty of Non Pareil robbery-murder

Cyon ‘Picture Boy’ Collier was yesterday found not guilty of the murder of Chandrapaul Persaud, who was shot to death in an armed robbery at Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara, in 2006.

After hours of deliberation, 12 jurors emerged out of their chambers at 7:30pm with the not guilty verdict.

Collier’s wife and children were seen weeping silently as police afterward escorted him to a prisoner’s van. He is still awaiting another trial for the murders of two Victoria brothers, Ray Walcott, called ‘Sugar,’ and Carl Andrews, called ‘Alo.’

He was facing a retrial for the murder of Persaud, 34, called ‘Kero Man,’ who was killed on September 30, 2006.

Persaud had just exited his vehicle at his Non Pareil, East Coast Demerara residence, when he was attacked. He was shot by one of three gunmen.

State attorney Mercedes Thompson, in her opening statement, had told the court that around 6:50pm three men entered Persaud’s premises armed with guns and robbed his family of jewellery and money. One of the men then shot and killed him. She said his wife was able to identify one of the three gunmen as Collier.

Justice Dawn Gregory presided over the case, while attorney Lyndon Amsterdam defended Collier.
