Albouystown man killed in suspected drive-by

A 27-year-old father of two was last evening gunned down in Cooper Street, Albouystown in what police investigators believe was a drive-by shooting.

Confirmed dead is Lloyd Bourne of Lot 57 James and Barr streets, Albouystown. He arrived at the Georgetown Hospital at 9.10 pm with a single gunshot wound to his left side chest and was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officials told Stabroek News that there are reports that the shooter was in a silver-grey motor car. This newspaper was unable to ascertain if the police had any clues as it relates to the whereabouts of the motor car or the gunman. “From how things are looking it was a drive by,” this newspaper was told.

Bourne’s mother Donna Harris said she had no details about the circumstances under which her son

was killed. She said he sustained a “bullet to the heart”.

Harris said she received a telephone call saying that he was shot and when she arrived at the hospital “they dun cover he up.” She said she asked the doctor to see his body and she was allowed. According to her, she doesn’t know her son to be involved in any wrongdoing.

Harris stated that all she knew was that her son was sitting “drinking with some friends and they say how some gun from somewhere fire off.”

She last spoke to him yesterday morning.

Meanwhile a cousin who identified herself only as “Samantha” said that when the call came, they were told that he was being taken to Balwant Singh hospital. They later learnt that he was at Georgetown Hospital and was dead. “Up to now we still trying to figure out what going on,” she said.

Other relatives and friends who converged at the hospital said they were in shock as they are clueless as to who would want to kill Bourne. As far as they are aware he had no problems with anyone.

They are taking his death hard particularly since only two weeks ago the mother of his 11-month-old child died of cancer. The two were living together at the time.

This is the second shooting to have occurred in the Albouystown area in the last two months. In the first, Adrian Bishop was shot dead by police shortly after he physically assaulted his girlfriend who is a policewoman. The woman had left the area and returned with the police. Based on eyewitness accounts, Bishop’s death was unwarranted as he willingly entered the police vehicle and at time displayed no resistance.

That matter is still under investigation.
