Vagrant says he stole and ate 23 mangoes from Banks compound

A vagrant was yesterday ordered to perform 10 hours of community service after he admitted to stealing a quantity of mangoes from a tree in the compound of Banks DIH Limited.

Rabindra Singh appeared before Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts charged with stealing 23 mangoes, the products of a cultivated land and not an open garden, valued $800, belonging to Banks DIH Limited.

According to the Prosecutor Kerry Bostwick on November 3 around 00:45 hrs a security guard on duty was in the process of checking off trucks leaving the compound when a vendor selling outside drew his attention to the fact that there was a man in the mango tree in the compound.

The guard then held on to Singh, who told him that he had jumped over the fence to get mangoes since he was very hungry. Singh was subsequently arrested and charged.

Singh told the court that he ate all the mangoes since he was very hungry and he is really sorry about it and it won’t happen again.

He was then ordered to perform 10 hours of community service at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Courts; failure to do so will result in him serving 7 days imprisonment.
