Accused for trial over fatal stabbing of bus driver

Orin Jerrick, the man accused of stabbing driver Gavin Fiffee to death after he upbraided him about urinating on his minibus, has been committed to stand trial in the High Court for murder.

Magistrate Judy Latchman, who presided over the preliminary inquiry into the murder charge against Jerrick, said the court had found sufficient evidence for him to stand trial.

Jerrick declined to call any witnesses, reserving his defence for the High Court.

When Magistrate Latchman told him that a prima facie case was made out against him, the man’s smile widened and he appeared unfazed by what she had to say. Throughout the preliminary inquiry, he had maintained a constant smile and cool disposition.

It was alleged that after Fiffee caught Jerrick urinating at the side of his minibus on July 31, at the Plaisance bus park, he ordered him to stop. Jerrick allegedly became enraged by Fiffee’s request and stabbed him to his chest multiple times. Fiffee was subsequently rushed to the Georgetown Hospital, where he bled to death.
