Body fished out of canal at Lusignan

The body of a young unidentified man was fished out of a flooded canal at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara yesterday.

The body was found floating in flood waters that had overtopped into the front yard of a New Settlement, Lusignan residence.

Loretta Persaud said when she woke up yesterday morning, she heard her husband calling her name. “It was around 5:30 and my husband call me and seh a man dead in our yard. I tell him he mad but he kept insisting,” she said, adding: “When I went out on my platform and look out I see the dead man floating in the water.”

She stated that after the heavy rainfall on Thursday, the canal had overtopped into her yard and garbage was strewn everywhere.

Persaud said she quickly alerted the police and they arrived within 15 minutes.

She said the unidentified man appeared to have been in his early twenties, of Indian descent and dark skinned. She also noted that one of his feet was smaller than the other and he appeared to have been disabled.
