GWI extends Free Pass to Saturday

The Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) has extended its ‘Free Pass’ campaign to Saturday to facilitate the large number of customers seeking to take advantage of the promotion to reconnect their water supply without paying the normal fees.

In a press release, the company announced the extension of the promotion after more than 3,000 customers visited its offices from Friday, November 28 to Monday, December 1.

Another countrywide disconnection campaign was scheduled to begin on Monday.

Customer Services Manager Jeanette Thomas was quoted as saying that GWI is pleased with the response and continues to encourage customers with unpaid service charges to take advantage of the campaign. “While we are extending the promotion for another week, our country-wide disconnection campaign has been intensified,” she said, adding that “our Enforcement Teams are monitoring and removing the services of customers who have illegally reconnected their service and have refused to make payments.”

The Free Pass campaign, which was launched in October, allows customers who were disconnected to reconnect their service without paying the usual reconnection fee. In addition, customers with illegal service connections can also regularise their service without paying tampering fees.

In order to facilitate the high amount of traffic at its offices, GWI has extended its business hours from 8am to 5pm during eekdays and will be open for late payments on Saturday December 6 from 9am to 3pm. It said the Free Pass will not be extended beyond Saturday.
