Top AFC leaders returned to posts at party conference

Several top AFC leaders were returned unopposed to their positions during the party’s biennial National Conference held yesterday.

Attorneys Khemraj Ramjattan, Nigel Hughes and Moses Nagamootoo were returned unopposed as leader, chairman and vice-chairman respectively, while Treasurer Dominic Gaskin and General-Secretary David Patterson were also returned to their posts. The conference was held at the St Stanislaus College with the returning officer being attorney-at-law Roysdale Forde.

Patterson told Stabroek News that for the remaining 12 executive positions, there were 35 nominations. “Every position was up for offer,” he said adding that they were open to all delegates. The party also added two positions of vice-chairperson for women and vice-chairperson for youth on its management committee. This was in order to be more representative of the demographics of the country, Patterson said.

There was no election of a presidential and prime ministerial candidate for general elections and Patterson said that in line with the party’s constitution, this will not be done until a date is named for those elections. President Donald Ramotar yesterday announced that elections will be held in the new year but did not name a date.
