Boat pilot dies in Pomeroon River collision

Eighteen-year-old Stephen Welcome from the Lower Pomeroon River died after the boat he was piloting crashed into another craft.

The incident reportedly occurred at around 6:30 pm on Thursday. Stabroek News was told that as a result of an incident that occurred in the Lower Pomeroon River involving the drowning of a two-year-old child, the police travelled to the area to conduct investigations and were returning to Charity when the boat piloted by Welcome collided with their craft.   The passengers were all thrown out of the boat and at least two police officers sustained minor injuries. Welcome suffered major injuries and was rushed to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital where he later succumbed.

Investigations are ongoing.
