A gross violation of human rights

Dear Editor,

How is it that the alleged sexual assault on Colwyn Harding is still being investigated two months after it is said to have occurred, whilst Mr Harding remains hospitalised? To think that such a despicable act allegedly occurred within an organization which functions to serve and protect is wholly disheartening and repugnant; it is a gross violation of human rights. I remain very concerned as a Rights Commissioner about the wanton police brutality and abuse of power in Guyana. How will the Commissioner of Police restore trust in his ranks? Following this what are mothers like myself to think about the Commissioner’s leadership as it relates to ‘Service and Protection’?

When will the report on this investigation be completed?

Yours faithfully,
Nicole Cole
