Opposition should maintain advocacy for resumed subventions to Critchlow Labour College

Dear Editor,

Leader of the Opposition David Granger used his New Year message to highlight two calls, one for a social contract and the other for 2014 to be the year of the worker.

With respect to the second, I urge the Leader of the Opposition to use the levers of his office to realize adult education opportunities via on-the-job training; remedial training; in-service training; and institutional training for citizens.

I also want to urge Mr Granger and his opposition colleagues to maintain their advocacy for the government to resume subventions to the Critchlow Labour College, and legislate for a realistic minimum wage.

Of course, it is incumbent on the government to seek to involve opposition political parties and other relevant institutional stakeholders in plans and instruments to increase employment opportunities for Guyana’s inhabitants. This is in keeping with my earlier call for consultative governance.

Yours faithfully,
Morris Wilson
