The President and Home Affairs Minister should do something to stop the scourge of noise nuisance

Dear Editor,

On behalf of residents of Chesney/ Kilcoy Housing Scheme we would like to bring to the attention of the powers that be our profound disgust, anger and frustration in relation to the scourge of noise nuisance in our community.

Editor, it seems as though everyone owns a big music set nowadays and they are competing to see whose set can play the loudest with no regard for the well-being of the sick, elderly and children of our community. On weekends it is worse, with the various Bar-B-Ques and other social activities making life miserable for all with the level of the music turned up to the max. Why can’t the music be played at an acceptable level so as not to disturb the neighbours? The funny thing is no one wants to listen to the songs that are being played. Everyone has their own choice. So why play music at such a loud volume? Everyone is entitled to peace and quiet in their own home. As for the police, when they are called either the calls go unanswered, they do not have vehicles or they tell the caller the people have permission.

Editor, we have reached breaking point with regard to noise nuisance, and the people cannot take it any more. Something has to give. We feel that the only thing that can jolt this government into action to alleviate the suffering of the beleaguered people of this country is to take the two biggest music sets available and place them in front of the residences of the President and Home Affairs Minister and play them at their loudest for one week, night and day, and then they would know what the people are going through. I bet you, there would be no more noise nuisance after that. Please, Mr President and Home Affairs Minister do something to stop the scourge of noise nuisance in this country.

 Yours faithfully,
