No DIRECTV in the Rupununi

Dear Editor,

I am a resident of Annai Village, North Rupununi who recently visited Stabroek TV’s office on Robb Street to make enquiries as to the process involved in signing up for DIRECTV. Lo and behold I was informed that the DIRECTV service is not offered in the Rupununi due to signal/reception issues. I was a bit perplexed with this information because I know of a DIRECTV subscriber who lives in Karasabai Village which is about eighty kilometres from Annai and gets DIRECTV live and direct without any problems. (And yes Karasabai Village is a part of the Rupununi.) So the explanation given to me by the Stabroek TV staff as to the reasons the service is not offered in the Rupununi seems to be conflicting with the facts on the ground.

I would be grateful if the management of StabroekTV can shed some light on the issue and a proper explanation given as to why the DIRECTV service is not available in the North Rupununi and more so the entire Rupununi.

Yours faithfully,
JP Abraham

Editor’s note

We are informed by Stabroek TV that DIRECTV technicians did speak to Mr Abraham when he visited the Robb Street office and explained to him that the system does not get a signal in the Rupununi. The customer in Karasabai who has DIRECTV has a twenty-foot dish, which is why he gets a reception. Stabroek TV does not stock these dishes (they are the very large ones the TV stations use) and as in the Karasabai case Mr Abraham would have to acquire one of these from somewhere else before he could sign up for the DIRECTV service.
