Better than bombs

Dear Editor,

Regarding Mr Perry’s thoughtful letter (‘Not social integration’ SN, March 1) re my recent column on ethnic separation here, I had explicitly stated the “need to address it with every fibre of our being,” so for him to say that my response can be paraphrased “as no big deal” is puzzling. The examples cited in the column evidence urgently the global span of this cancer in mankind.

Secondly, while I agree that the Caribbean’s reaction of “some measure of accommodation rather than outright rejection of the other” is not, as Mr Perry put it, “social integration,” I would contend that it is better than bombs and rockets and beheadings.

Yours faithfully,

Dave Martins
