Pleas about chicken pen fall on deaf ears

Dear Editor,

If one should research and visit the archive of Stabroek News letters to the editor, one can read that from 2012 to date just about eight letters were written to the editor and published by this newspaper regarding a large stinking chicken pen in Chateau Margot.

However, Editor, despite that, to date the persistent selfish owners continue with that stinking rat-infested blot on this residential community. The owners of that nuisance continue regardless carte blanche with that illegally built health nuisance /hazard.

One is aware that  several surrounding neighbours are also silently suffering while the czars at the NDC of LBI/Better Hope turn their heads the other way pretending that they did not hear the pleas of beleaguered taxpayers. Several complaints were made over these two years to the Ministry of Health and the NDC of LBI/Better Hope.

Editor, apart from enduring the stench emanating from that large pen, the structure itself is also a problem. Because of its size it covers all of the owner’s yard space with no immediate drainage of its own to provide for the discharge of rain or domestic waste water. The chicken waste water and rainfall water flow over to a long-suffering neighbour’s yard and cause an artificial flood. Another nuisance there too! Editor it seems to us that the owner of that chicken pen does not care about neighbours’ pleas. That pen also seems to breach the local building regulations code, which needs investigation by the relevant authority.

We believe that continued publicity and exposure are the only antidote to this sickening and disgusting impediment on the landscape of this once verdant hamlet.

Yours faithfully,
