PPP members did not attend Rupununi democracy workshop

 Dear Editor,

I was invited to a workshop on Democracy on Friday, April 4, and was asked to mobilise a few interested residents who were willing to participate. I got 19 in all. I was very careful not to be seen as inviting only persons who share the same political views as myself. I even invited a Pastor. I went to some very prominent residents who are seen as in opposition to my views and remarkably, they all declined my invitation.

Being a bit worried, I called the PPP point person and asked whether he could persuade at least 6 of his members to participate in the workshop. He told me bluntly that he couldn’t do that.

This has forced me to conclude that the PPP is anything but democratic. If they were they would take every opportunity to ensure that their members are schooled in the tenents of democracy.

I also came to the conclusion that the PPP wants to keep the residents in a state of ignorance. This will ensure continued manipulation. If the masses are educated, the manipulation is over.

I am therefore calling on all residents, not only in the Rupununi, but across Guyana, to learn about democracy and they will see what masqueraders the PPP are when they talk about the return of democracy in 1992.

Yours faithfully,
