The Canadians should process Guyanese visa applications here

Dear Editor,

I would like to make a special appeal to the Canadian High Commission in Guyana and, to an extent the Government of Canada, to establish a visa centre here, where interviews can be done. It is very costly and time-consuming for applicants to courier packages to Trinidad, especially if they want their visas back in a timely manner.

It has been years now since the old service was functioning, but pleas have been to no avail. Guyanese applicants still have to depend on the embassy in Trinidad for the processing of visa applications.

Also, why does the Canadian High Commission require so much paperwork and letters? They need to bring face-to-face interviews to Guyana as the US Embassy does.

I truly hope that some changes can be made regarding the application and visa interview process. I see no reason why a fully fledged visa centre cannot be established here, saving applicants time and money.

Finally, I would like to mention something in relation to my own application recently. I applied for a multiple visa, paid the fee and such, yet I received a single entry visa. It was no error since the receipt from the High Commission in Trinidad verified such. I am a frequent traveller to the United States as well. I will now have to endure further financial application and courier costs in the near future when I would like to visit Canada when this single entry visa expires. I would like to know why the High Commission does this.

Yours faithfully,
