Why do local companies not reply to queries transmitted through their websites?

Dear Editor,

Over a period of time I have been browsing a lot of companies/organizations’ websites and whilst doing that I would click on the link to contact the sites with queries or comments like GPL Inc, NM Services Ltd, GT&T, Guyana Police Force, Food for the Poor (Guyana) etc. However, none of them reply, and I am wondering why they have a website with these features if they do not reply when you try to contact them. Many of these places are hard to reach by phone and they burn up your credit tremendously especially when you are using mobile phone. Most times you would get an automatic answering machine or you have to go through a switchboard and be on hold, etc. The internet might be slower, but one would have believed that it’s a guarantee that you would eventually get a reply, but sadly that is not the case.

I must admit that when I contact GWI Inc and Gizmos and Gadgets via the social network, Facebook, they reply immediately, and I have come to the conclusion that those who don’t reply don’t have people to monitor their websites.

Editor, many foreign companies reply immediately or they have an online representative to chat and assist you, but locally those features are not easily available and it seems as if we are not ready for the technology age. If it’s an emergency, I would advise those who are contemplating contacting the relevant agencies via their website not to do so, because from all indications, they are just there for advertising purposes and mislead you with their “contact us” feature.

Yours faithfully,

Sahadeo Bates
