Are the politicians listening?

Dear Editor

The President should can the rhetoric. We want our local government elections. And, we also want our Public Procure-ment Commission.

As for the combined opposition, what do they think they are doing bringing this country so close to financial ruin by blocking the Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) Bill?

Is it that politicians in Guyana just do not care or is it that they are past caring? Democracy is not just about elections. It is about good governance. (Emile Mervin).

Politics is about helping people. We need serious politicians in Guyana. Politicians who are willing to help people. Not politicians who want to play the game of continued brinkmanship.

Some Guyanese politicians obviously think that they are God’s gift to Guyana. They like to tell us about all the great things they will do for us as they spend our money. They even go so far as to want to do our thinking for us.

We will do our own thinking. We just need them to be facilitators and regulators.

Are they actually listening? Are they actually taking us seriously?

Yours faithfully,
Sean McLean
