In his letter captioned ‘A real leader of any true opposition would have stepped up to the crease and batted for everyone” (SN, July 29) Mr Emile Mervin seems to be advocating a more confrontational militant approach to politics in Guyana as he sits in New York.
I believe that the opposite is needed. That is, more compromise to build trust in Guyana. Mr Mervin does not feel the effects of confrontational politics in Guyana where he is in New York. So he stands aloof from the process.
The problem in the world today is that there are too many people functioning on hate as opposed to love. May I take this opportunity to ask Mr Mervin what exactly did confrontational politics achieve during Desmond Hoyte’s ‘Slo’ fiah, mo’ fiah’ campaign?
