‘State of African Villages’ forum to be held in Buxton

Dear Editor,

In response to recent calls for African Guyanese Revitalization by Mr Vincent Alexander, the Cuffy250 Committee in collaboration with the Buxton First of August Movement will be holding a ‘State of African Villages’ forum in Buxton on Sunday August 17 at 1 pm at the Friendship Primary School. Under the theme, ‘This Confounded Nonsense must Stop: Time for African Guyanese Revitalization Now,’ the forum will bring together villagers, African Guyanese leaders along with Buxtonion educators and activists to discuss issues affecting African Guyanese villages and communities and begin charting a way forward. Cuffy250 and the Buxton First of August Movement believe this Forum is timely given the obvious decline in the social and economic pillars of our villages.

The topics to be discussed include The Village still Matters: African Revitalization and the Future of Guyana; Local Government, Village Councils and African Revitalization; The State of Education in Buxton and other African Villages and what to do; The Importance of Reparations to African Guyanese Revitalization; Entrepreneurship, Business and Village Revitalization; Reviving Black/African Guyanese Cultural Pride; Creative Arts as Tools of African Guyanese Revitalization; and Youth Empowerment and Village Revitalization.

The speakers include Deon Abrams, Norwell Hinds, Kidackie Amsterdam, Barbra Thomas- Holder; Vincent Alexander, Dr David Hinds, Jonathan Adams, Dr Norman Ng A Qui, Ruel Johnson, Dwayne Benjamin and Nigel Hughes.

Yours faithfully,
David Hinds, Cuffy 250
