Dear Editor,
I am not employed by the Guyana Times and neither was I paid a hefty sum for my four photos which were used by the newspaper in its Inter-Guiana Games 2014 sports reports on Monday, August 4 and Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
For the record, I was never notified about their proposed use, and did not grant permission for them to be used. Since they appeared, people are now under the impression that I am working for the Guyana Times and would have been paid. In addition, people are under the impression that I am now affiliated to the PPP/C. Again, I state for the record that I have no affiliation to any political party in Guyana.
I did speak to a representative at the Guyana Times on the phone and was told that the newspaper might not have had their sports journalists covering those two days of events and he would have thought that permission had been granted. It was on Friday, August 7 and Monday, August 12, 2014 that I made those calls and was told that the Sports Editor would return a call. To date, no calls have been received from the Sports Editor of the newspaper.
It was in 2013 that a representative of the Guyana Times made contact with me requesting permission to use an athlete’s photo that I had taken. I did give permission but the said photo was never used. After enquiring about the reason, I was informed that it was not the best quality for the paper.
Anyhow, I hope that the Sports Editor or someone in authority at the Guyana Times would find the time to pen a response to the above.
I still do read all four Guyanese newspapers whenever time allows.
