A series of letters under the hand of Ms Anandjit, PS Ministry of Legal Affairs refers to matters concerning the affairs of the Guyana Bar Asso-ciation that she ought not to know.
Firstly, her assertion in the SN on October 8 that Mr Rockliffe and Mr Ram were rejected from consideration as nominees under the Deeds Registry Management Authority is untrue (‘The Judicial Review Act cannot be brought into force until the new Rules of Court are promulgated’). Why she would speculate on this is beyond me. Both gentlemen would have been eminently qualified had they made themselves available for consideration. Mr Rockliffe, whose qualifications few would dare to impugn, declined many times.
Secondly and more mysteriously, in the SN of October 10, she says, “I am aware that these rules have been sent by the Chancellor to the Guyana Bar Association of which Mr Ram is the secretary, for their input” (‘Rules of Court for Judicial Review Act come into operation on a date to be fixed by the Chancellor’). I wonder how she could know that the envelope with these rules was unsealed by me in the privacy of my office at 3pm on October 9 and a copy of the Chancellor’s cover letter was scanned and emailed by me to my executive colleagues at 3.43pm. So much for the separation of powers trumpeted by her. Or perhaps my office is plagued by the same electronic and other vagrants seeking to impugn other pristine reputations around the city.
