NIS officer was unhelpful

Dear Editor,

A female employee of the claims section of the NIS head office really annoyed me so much that she advised me not to phone her any more in relation to payment benefits emerging from the death of my sister, Bibi Lucianna Amin.

My 27-year-old sister died leaving two children aged 7 and 4 in my care and custody and the NIS money is very helpful in their upbringing.

The payments were sent to me by registered post on the regular due dates, but for some reason or the other the penultimate one is yet to reach me although the last one was received.

In trying to ascertain from her what could have been responsible for the delay, she was very rude and said to me, “I fed up with you. Talk to another person,” without providing a name.

From the very inception she was the one handling this matter and I am at a loss now to know with whom contact should be made in order to get some useful information.

Better needs to be done as she is under obligation by virtue or her job to assist me and not to see it as a situation where I am begging her to do me a favour.

It would be useful for the Public Relations Officer to respond to my predicament and advise on the way forward.
