Mr Green’s claim was rejected in accordance with NIS regulations

Dear Editor,

Please permit me to respond to the letter `Claim rejected by NIS Board’ which was published in the Tuesday, October 14, 2014 edition of Stabroek News.

Please note that the claim for Mr. Hamilton Green was rejected by the NIS Board in accordance with the National Insurance and Social Security (Benefits) Regulations, Section 21(2), which states that, “No Insured person shall be entitled to sickness Benefit on or after attaining the age of Sixty (60) years.” The conditions for qualifying for the Sickness Benefit also apply for the provision of medical care which would be provided to those entitled for as long as the need for such continues or recurs.

The Scheme wishes to encourage all Insured Persons to ensure that claims for medical conditions are submitted to the NIS prior to attaining age 60 years and while they are still in insurable employment.

Yours faithfully,
