There is a perception that the APNU leadership is swiftly evolving into political lackeys of the PPP

Dear Editor,

I observed a letter in yesterday’s SN from Mark DaCosta captioned `APNU’s apparent reticence is saving Guyana from another five years of PPP dictatorship’.

Mr. DaCosta failed to address the crucial issue pertaining to APNU’s political performance under Mr. David Granger’s leadership. As a result of the dreadful manner in how Mr. Granger discharged his duties to the nation since 2012, it is almost a certainty now that the APNU or even the PNCR cannot win the plurality in the upcoming elections once he is the Leader. So in desperation “if you cannot beat them, join them” seems to be the APNU play in this political poker game.

Spin it how they want, the fact remains that the petty bourgeoisie who dominate the leadership of the APNU/PNCR have much to gain personally by running to the Office of the President for private backroom and secretive meetings in a perpetual fashion. A union on the political strategy between the PPP and the PNC can bear perks and privileges for the APNU leadership at the expense of the working class.

So understand why APNU cannot sign that letter that the AFC sent to the Speaker demanding the “No Confidence Motion”.

As the PPP and the PNCR/APNU buy time and continue the status quo, they must also understand that a nation is watching them and when the masses make their decision at the appropriate time, they must accept their fate.

There is a perception being cemented in the minds of many that the APNU leadership is swiftly evolving into political lackeys of the PPP. But this game of political deceit and deception has been this way for generations. Remember who provided critical support to the PNC in the 1970’s? Yes the PPP!

 Yours faithfully,

Sase Singh
