Nationals should have included athletes from all ten regions

Dear Editor,

When I was informed that the Guyana Teachers Union Track and Field Championships 2014 was billed for the Guyana Defence Force Ground (Ayanganna), I was furious for many reasons. One was that it was too late and the rainy season was upon us. In addition, the event did not have access to the National Stadium this year because of a cricket tournament.

It is also sad in many ways not to have witnessed athletes from all ten administrative regions compete in track and field at Guyana’s most prestigious sporting event – the Nationals – as happens elsewhere.

On the brighter side, I managed to do photo coverage of the swimming segment at the Aquatic Centre, Turkeyen, and it was a blast – perfect weather, well supported, highly competitive, fun, etc.

Yours faithfully,
T Pemberton
