Banks Beer Cup final set for Providence National Stadium

- GFA president Burnett

Georgetown Football Association (GFA) President Vernon Burnett yesterday stated that the third annual Georgetown Football Association (GFA)/Banks Beer Knockout Cup final will be hosted at the National Stadium Providence today.

Speaking at a brief press conference held on the playing surface of the Providence location, Burnett said:“We applied for rental of the stadium and it was granted. We always wanted to do our finals at the stadium.

“Both the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) and the stadium were options, with the stadium our first choice. We would always like to play our football at the stadium,” added Burnett.

He added that the association was working assiduously to get all the logistics in place for what should be a great finale and that keen competition between the competing sides is expected.

“We are extremely happy to be at this stage which is the final lap of the event. We expect two exciting games tomorrow with keen competition and hope everyone comes out and support their teams” said Burnett.

GFA General Secretary and Presidential Advisor on Empowerment in the PPP/C administration Odinga Lumumba stated that due to co-operation between the relevant bodies, the GFA will be able to complete the tournament in a timely manner.

He noted that more corporate entities should come on board in the development of football so that a professional league can be created and that the beverage giants simply cannot shoulder the developmental burden alone.

“Without Banks we couldn’t do this. One company can’t do this alone,” said Lumumba.

Brian Choo-Hen, Banks Beer Brand Manager during a short address said:“We are more than happy to be here with the GFA and my colleagues. Banks DIH Limited as Guyana knows is proud to be associated with the GFA and its getting better.”

Gates are expected to be open at 17:00hrs for the event and ticket prices are $1500 for regular admission and $3000 for VIP admission. The respective tickets can be purchased at Nigel’s Supermarket, Talk is Cheap Internet Café and Body Central Boutique.
