GFF Technical Director vacancy to be filled today-Matthias

Guyana Football Federation (GFF) President Christopher Matthias said yesterday that the senior Technical Director vacancy that currently exists within the Golden Jaguars setup will be filled today.

Speaking via telephone during an exclusive interview with Stabroek Sports, Matthias stated that the all-important decision on the selection of the individual will be made known today following discussions and deliberations with the members of the executive body. Questioned how many candidates would have officially applied for the post, the GFF boss said: “We have received only one application so far and it is Mark Rodrigues. Currently we are reviewing the application right now.”

Asked what will be the criteria used to select this individual, Matthias said: “He must be qualified and possess a minimum qualification at the international level.

“He must also have had international exposure and/or experience and command the respect of the international community, the administration and the players who will come under his charge.”

Questioned about the Technical Director’s main priority following his appointment, Matthias said “To set a national development programme, policy and path for Guyana’s football.

“Football has been starved of a national development policy and strategy.”

He went on: “This is the first time football has been structured administratively, technically and tactically. There is a national framework for the hosting of competitions and also a national selection criteria for the choosing of national teams”. Commenting on the vacancy that exists at the senior head coaching level, Matthias said: “The members of the executive would have conducted an interview with Alpha United head coach Wayne Dover yesterday for the head coaching job.

“We also intend to have an interview with the other applicant who is Guyana Defence Force (GDF) coach Denzil Thompson for the post. By Friday we should have both positions filled.”
