The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) in collaboration with the United States of America-based Elizabeth Styles cosmetics company, yesterday launched the annual Junior and Senior Elite cricket academy training programmes for zones in Berbice.

The simple ceremony was held at the Hand-In-Hand group of Companies branch, Avenue of the Republic.

Elizabeth Styles local representative and President of the East Coast Cricket Board (ECCB) Bissoondyal Singh, BCB executive Hilbert Foster and others gathered to launch the upcoming coaching clinics. The company, which has already sponsored Under-19 and Under-21 tournaments, will be also sponsoring six cricket clinics for the BCB at the cost of $40, 000.00 each ($240 000.00). The sessions will target fast bowlers, spinners, batsmen and wicket keepers. The fast bowlers and batsmen will be involved in two clinics as the board seeks to ensure that every Berbice cricketer is not only properly prepared but fully understand their roles as sports ambassadors.

The management of the BCB over the last seven years has worked beyond the call of duties to make a difference and the Special Events Committee has completed over 600 programmes/activities over the same period of time.

The BCB also thanked the management of Elizabeth Styles for the investment in Berbice cricket. This investment will enable the board to lift the standard of cricket and also to make sure that the celebration of the 75th anniversary can be looked forward to with confidence for the next 25 years, said Foster.
