GSDF teachers/Coaches course gets underway today

The first of three coaching sessions for Teachers/Coaches participating in the 2014 Scotia Bank/Pepsi Schools Tournament commences today at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.

According to a release from the Guyana Sports and Development Foundation (GSDF) the initiative, which is a collaboration with the Guyana Coaches Association will begin at 09:00hrs.

The first session will be held in Georgetown while similar sessions will be conducted tomorrow in New Amsterdam and Wednesday in Linden. All sessions will be facilitated by veteran coach Stanley Harmon from 09:00 hours daily.

The release states that the course is a comprehensive one that covers all aspects of coaching, team management, care and treatment of athletic injuries and sports psychology.  As in previous years it will be a blend of classroom and field sessions.  This year field sessions will dominate, since the course is scheduled for one day.

All Teachers/Coaches will be provided with a handbook to be used as a refresher after the course is completed.

The aim of the sessions is to provide broad based knowledge on the principles of the game and hopefully the participants will gain enough knowledge to properly instruct students, to ensure they perform creditably on the field.

Teachers/Coaches are expected to act as role models for their students and display respect for the program and their school.
