Courts support for AAG, GBA

Courts Guyana Inc. has once again lent its corporate support to sports associations.

During a simple ceremony yesterday at the Main Street headquarters, the furniture giant’s representatives presented cheques to executives of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) and the Athletic Association of Guyana (AAG) to offset expenses for upcoming events.

Courts’ Marketing Officer, Trudy Abrahams and Manager of the branch, Pamela Humphrey handed over a cheque worth $200,000 to the head of the GBA Steve Ninvalle and an undisclosed sum to the Vice President of the AAG, Gavin Hope.

The monetary donation to the boxing association will go towards its three-day, four-nation, International Goodwill Tournament which boxes off today at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall while the AAG will use its funds for the annual Junior Carifta Games in April.

“We are very pleased to be supporting sport locally because sport is the life blood of a nation,” Abrahams said yesterday.

“We are very happy to be making these donations today and we look forward to the young sportsmen and women excelling at the tournaments,” Abrahams added.

Both Hope and Ninvalle expressed gratitude for Courts’ kind gesture.

“We at the GBA are extremely happy to be receiving this timely donation from Courts,” Ninvalle stated.

“It is especially important if we are to take sport to the next level that we have a good relationship with corporate Guyana and the government.

“Courts’ has always been a good corporate citizen and we do ask people in the boxing fraternity to support the people who support us,” he said.

Hope echoed similar sentiments and also encouraged other corporate entities to follow in Courts’ footsteps. The AAG VP said that the money received from Courts will go towards the airfare and accommodation of the athletes who will be competing at the games billed for Martinique on Easter weekend.

Note: Trinidad and Tobago, St. Lucia and Jamaica are the three other nations competing in the International Goodwill Tournament.
