Lambert to lead J/ca against Guyana

Kingston, Jamaica- The selection panel of the Jamaica Cricket Association led by Chairman Wavell Hinds yesterday named Tamar Lambert to lead Jamaica’s senior thirteen man cricket squad against Guyana in the opening fixture of the WICB Regional 4 day Championship set to bowl off at Sabina Park on Friday.

The St Catherine batsman has returned to the fold as captain having played under David Bernard Jnr in the recently concluded Super50 competition.

Bernard Jnr was also named among the thirteen players that will take on a strong Guyana squad that includes veterans Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Ramnaresh Sarwan. The rest of the Jamaica squad reads, Carlton Baugh Jnr, Jerome Taylor, Andre Russell, Sheldon Cotterell, Andre McCarthy, Jermaine Blackwood, John Campbell, Nkumah Bonner, Andrew Richardson, Jamie Merchant and Horace Miller.

Additionally, Nikita Miller and Damion Jacobs will replace Andre Russell and Sheldon Cotterell who will both be on West Indies duties in the World twenty20 World Cup in Bangladesh.

Chairman of selectors Wavell Hinds believes the squad selected is a balanced one and will represent the country well.

“We believe in continuity and so we are sticking with the majority of players that took part in the recently concluded Super 50 competition, we believe in their ability and we expect them to go out and do Jamaica proud.”

Hinds also welcomed back Tamar Lambert to the fold of captain, and believes the veteran will lead the team amiably.

“Tamar has proved that he is an astute leader and so we have no doubt that he will do a good job as captain, he has proved his worth time and time again at this level and it is with that we have decided to stick with the tried and proven.”

Jamaica will play Guyana in the opening round of the Regional 4 day championship on Friday February 28 to Monday March 3.
