George places fifth in 200m

Alisha Fortune failed to finish in the women’s 200m and boxers, Theresa London and Dennis Thomas lost their respective bouts as Guyana’s mediocre showing at the ongoing South American Games continued on Saturday.

The 2012 Olympian, Winston George’s also failed to step on the podium since he placed fifth in the final of the men’s 200m.

George clocked 20.77s for the event which was won by Brazil’s Aldemir Gomes in 20.32. In the ring, London was stopped by Brazil’s Flavia Tereza while Thomas lost 3-nil to Colombia’s Luis Vivas. The Games continues yesterday with the Guyanese athletes, Cleveland Thomas and Wayne Harlequin competing in the men’s 800m.

Cleveland Forde will also run in the men’s 5000m.
