Crawford wins Flying Ace CC 40-mile race

Trojan Cycle Club standout, Romallo Crawford emerged winner of the Flying Ace Cycle Club (FACC) organized 40-mile road race staged in the Ancient County on Sunday.

Besides the winner’s trophy, Crawford who competed with a borrowed cycle, also snared six sprint prizes for the event which pedaled off from Marks Bridge at Stanleytown and ended at Adventure on the Corentyne.

Ray Millington of the FACC edged Romallo’s cousin, Juban Crawford to place second while veteran Wilbur Benjamin out sprinted the pack to place fourth. Elijah Brijadder and Wazim Hassnu rounded out the top six.

The race which was only opened for cyclists residing in Berbice attracted 20 starters.

David Sampson won in the beginner’s category with 14 year old Simeon Allicock getting a special prize.

In the females category,Deance Welch of Trojan won from Shenika Teixeira.

The event was sponsored by a number of businesses in Berbice including Benjamin Sports, Guinness Bar, Furniture World, Lloyd Williams, Home Line Furnishing, Steve Ramsuchit and D. Balram Shane.

The race was coordinated by cycle coach of the FACC Randolph Roberts.
