Ravens will start as favourites

— GABF president Hinds urges fans to come out and support final

As the saying goes tonight’s Road to Mecca Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation Inter Club championships grand finale at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall could be anybody’s game or put it another way either team can triumph.

However, due to their performances in the last three years, Dynas Ravens, who qualified for the final by defeating Colts 71-68 last Sunday could be installed as slight favourites.

They will be led by arguably the country’s best player in Akeem `The Dream’ Kanhai who netted 28 points in that game and he will receive

Their opponents, Retrieve Raiders, who defeated Amelia’s Ward Jets 55-50 in their semifinal match will be spearheaded by another of the country’s top player in Dwayne `Brown Sugar’ Roberts.

Roberts, who was not given time off from his job to participate in the semifinal, will play tonight.

He is currently averaging 18 points per game in the tournament and will receive support from centre Neil Marks.

According to GABF president, Nigel Hinds, tonight’s game promises much excitement and can been seen as an achievement by the organization to host such an event. He is also encouraging supporters to come out and support a team of their choice to make this event an even memorable one.

The match might be billed as Georgetown versus Linden affair but both Roberts and Kanhai are from Linden.

The final will be contested from 10p.m. while the third and fourth place play off between Bounty Colts and Amelia’s Wards Jets begins at 8p.m. There will also be an exhibition game between teams from the Diplomatic Corp and the Media United which will commence the night’s activities at 6.pm.
