Defending champs St George’s reach final

Defending champions St. George’s Secondary defeated Christ Church Secondary 3-0 to clinch their spot in the final of the Milo/Petra Organization U20 football tournament following play Saturday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.

Midfielder Ozeal Small opened the scoring for the defending champions with  a 19th-minute strike into the right hand side of the net.

Robby McCloggan should have doubled the lead for the St. George’s unit in the 41st minute, but his right footed effort from inside the centre of the penalty box was denied by the outstretched leg of the Christ Church ‘keeper as half time ended 1-0.

St. George’s would double their advantage in the 57th minute of the second period through an Orin Moore finish to back of the net from inside the right side of the penalty area, after collecting a left sided pass from the Adolph George.

The win would be sealed in the 88th minute as Marlon Duncan added his name to the scorer’s sheet by lashing his right footed strike to the bottom left hand corner of the net from within the centre of the penalty area.

St. George’s will now face off with Lodge Secondary in the final on April 5 at the same venue after the latter team defeated Dolphin Secondary in their semi-final matchup by a 3-1 score line.

The tournament winners will receive $500,000 for the building of any school project as well as the respective trophy and medals.

The second and third place finishers will receive $300,000 and $200,000 respectively towards the building of any school project and the corresponding trophy and medals. The fourth place finishers will collect $100,000 towards the building of any school project and a trophy.
