Basketball road leads to Linden this Saturday

The Road to Mecca now leads basketball fans to Linden this Saturday when the Sports Management Inc. stages a one night basketball extravaganza at the Mackenzie Sports Club hardcourt.

The tournament, sanctioned by the Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) as part of its 2014 programme of activities will also include the top four teams of the recent national club championships.

Speaking at the launching of the competition, Nigel Hinds, President of GABF said the initiative by Sports Management Inc. is a good one, and is welcomed by the GABF as it strives to develop the game nationwide through various planning and organizing.

Founder of Sports Management Inc., Edison Jefford, said as a basketball enthusiast it would be nice to see the Georgetown teams competing outside their comfort zone and with the Lindeners playing at home.The competition promises to be fierce throughout the night.  Patrons will be treated to half time giveaways and a show hosted by renowned comedian, Kirk `Chow Pow’ Jardine while Linden DJs Winston and Akelo will also be a part of the entertainment package.

The tournament, which features the top three teams of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association playing against the top three teams from Linden Amateur Basketball Association begins at 7p.m with Colts playing Amelia Ward Jets.

The other two matches will see Trinity Grid Holdings Pacesetters tackling Klass Kings and the final match will be a rematch from the national club championship as Dyna’s Ravens face off with Retrieve Raiders.
