Young Warriors, Achievers A record victories

Young Warriors and Achievers ‘A’ recorded wins this past weekend in the ongoing 2014 Elizabeth Styles Under-19 50-over Cricket Competition which is being contested in the ancient county, Berbice.

Playing against Edinburgh, Young Warriors recorded a 95-run win. Recently drafted Guyana senior opening batsman Shimron Hetmyer slammed his second consecutive half century for Young Warriors. The 17 year-old slammed 92 which included 10 fours and 2 sixes along with 84 from Zachery Persaud to lead the team to 274 in 38.1 overs.

When Edinburgh replied Joseph Giddings (65) and Jerome Andrews (50) offered resistance as their team bowed out for 186 in 35 overs. In zone A, after the Cotton Tree Die Hard bowlers bowled out Achievers A for 113 in 13.3 overs;  Achievers opening bowler, Guyana U-17 pacer Grisean Grant and off-spinner Lawrence Sears returned with bowling figures of 5 for 9 respectively, to collectively bowl out Cotton Tree for just 18 runs in 5.4 overs.

At Edinburgh, Young Warriors beat Edinburgh by 95 runs. Young Warriors 274 in 38.1 overs with Shimron Hetmyer 92; Z Persaud 84, Videshwar Mangra 3 for 31, Wally Latif 3 for 65, Joseph Giddings 2 for 45, and Clifford Welcome 2 for 51.

Edinburgh 186 in 35 overs with Joseph Giddings 65, Jerome Andrews 50, Royden Phil 3 for 24, Kassim Khan 3 for 26.

At Cotton Tree, Achievers A beat Cotton Tree Die Hard by 95 runs. Achievers A 113 in 13.3 overs with Rennison Mitchell 28, Randy Wade 24, Leonard Seetayah 4 for 19, Ajai Hemraj 3 for 14, Hemchan Singh 2 for 11.

Cotton Tree Die Hard 18 in 5.4 overs with Grisean Grant 5 for 9, Lawrence Sears 5 for 9.
